Portugal's National Day,The day of Camões and of the Portuguese Communities, is regulated by Decree-Law Nr. 51/92. The organization and coordination of the commemorations is the responsibility of the Organizing Committee


The Organizing Committee for the commemorations is responsible for the organization and coordination of the official commemorations of the Portuguese National Day, as well as for the development of the annual plan for commemorative activities to be held in the country and abroad.

The Organizing Commission has a president and four board members. The president of the commission is nominated annual in a dispatch from the President of the Republic. The Board Members are also nominated in a dispatch from the President of the Republic, based on a proposal from the Prime Minister after a hearing with the President of the Commission.
