The General Secretariat is the service of administrative support for the Presidency of the Republic, responsible for:
Ensuring the operations of the administrative services, including the services related to the Chancellery of the Portuguese Honorific Orders;

It executes the decisions of the Administrative Council and, in general, ensures the operations of the services of administration, financial management and patrimonial management;

It handles all the operations of personnel administration and management;

It prepares the budget, as well as the report and the management accounts of the Presidency of the Republic.

The General Secretariat is directed and coordinated by the secretary-general, who, in addition, is the secretary-general of the Portuguese Honorific Orders.
